Instructor Rosanne Hood holds a B.S. in Fashion Design from Texas Woman’s University
with minors in Art & Marketing. While in college she competed in various design competitions and won the TWU Make It With Wool Contest in addition to receiving a Fashion Group of Dallas Scholarship for her design portfolio of women’s business suits. After college, Rosanne did free-lance design and sewing work in the Dallas area,
mainly in hat & belt design.
She went on to accept an entry level position with JCPenney Quality Assurance Center and within 2 years became the Menswear Merchandise Evaluation Engineer. In this position Rosanne managed textile testing and evaluation of JCPenney Men’s Sportswear, including JCPenney proprietary apparel labels such as Hunt Club® and St. John’s Bay® labels in addition to other national brand merchandise. She coordinated and managed research projects providing the JCPenney brand development team with data to improve quality. She participated in the updating of internal testing standards and was a part of a team of engineers who prepared and taught portions of educational textile seminars to non-technical corporate associates in a way that was easily understood. She held this position until she retired to stay home full time with her then 6 month old daughter.
Rosanne taught fashion design, sewing & pattern-making to the Austin area homeschool community at One Day Academy from 2007 until 2012. From 2012-2014 she was the Costume Director for WATCH Homeschool Co-op Theater in Georgetown, TX and currently helps with costume fitting and alterations there. In addition, she teaches weekly sewing classes at WATCH. During the summer months she teaches sewing camps and private lessons from her home studio.
Rosanne has been sewing and designing for 45+ years. Her passion is to teach sewing basics to develop good sewing habits in her students so that as their skill grows they will be comfortable sewing more complicated items. She is married to Michael Hood and currently homeschools their younger 3 children.
